Marc is a musician and educator who grew up in the woods of NW Lower Michigan. He lives in Interlochen on property that his great grandfather settled in the early 1900s with his wife Amber, his toddler son Abraham, a couple of miniature pinschers, and two cats that showed up on the deck and never left. Marc is a board member of the Green Lake and Duck Lake Association and does the water quality sampling for Green Lake. By day he teaches Life Science, Literacy, and Robotics at Benzie Central Middle School and is the coach of both the High School VEX Robotics Competition team and the Middle School VEX IQ Challenge team. By night he plays drums in the Traverse City based reggae/funk/ameriana band Soul Patch. In 2011 Marc founded the Deep Blue Water Samba School, a community samba drumming group. Marc attended Alma College where he majored in percussion performance and was both a camper and counselor at the University of Michigan All-State program at the Interlochen Arts Camp. He studied West African drumming and culture in Ghana, Irish bodhran in Ireland, and Brazilian drumming and music at the California Brazil Camp among the redwood trees. When he is not drumming or building robots he is… well… he is usually drumming or building robots.
Here is Marc’s story from the January 2020 event.
